Description of content: Revision of the Mandatory Standard SI 1605 part 1 dealing with the safety requirements and test methods for water slides. This draft standard revision is an adoption of both the European Standard EN 1069-1: August 2010 and the American Standard ASTM F2376-08, and allows compliance with either of them. The major differences between the old version and this new revised draft standard are due to the changes introduced in the new version of the adopted European Standard as follows:
· Changes the standard's title and expands its scope to include all slides, with no height limits;
· Adds new definitions and improves some of those existing;
· Changes the classifications of Type 1 and Type 2 (paragraph 4) and their additional requirements (paragraph 8);
· Adds new classifications: Type 8, Type 9 and Type 10 (paragraph 4) and their additional requirements (paragraph 8);
· Expands paragraph 5 dealing with materials and constructions;
· Changes paragraph 6 dealing with design to include loads for all slide types, design instructions, testing and examination of the design, and performance of primary risk assessment;
· Changes the requirements for entrapment (paragraph 7.2);
· Expands the access options to water slides (paragraph 7.5);
· Changes the protection requirements against falls and adds new requirements for railings (paragraph 7.5.5);
· Adds new requirements dealing with resistance to slipping (paragraph 7.5.6);
· Adds new requirements for the sliding route (paragraph 7.7.2);
· Adds new requirements for slowdown units (paragraph 7.9.2.2);
· Rewrites the requirements for the sliding improvement devices (paragraph 7.11.2);
· Moves the splashdown area of specific and generic swimming pools to Annex A;
· Changes the requirements for landing (paragraph 8.2.3);
· Changes and provides further details for vacant area (paragraph 8.4);
· Rewrites the requirements for the practical check runs (paragraph 9.3);
· Changes the requirements for the slide purpose, to allow the combination of two different slides (paragraph 10.1);
· Fixes Figure 6;
· Adds Annex B dealing with the use of stainless steel;
· Adds Annex C dealing with design of load access and loads;
· Adds Annex D dealing with acceleration and speed measurement.
